Fifteen student-teacher pairs embarked on a life changing voyage to the Normandy Beaches in France and the vast history of D-Day that occurred there. The program, founded by Mr. Albert H. Small, is called Normandy: Sacrifice for Freedom. The focus of the program is to bring the students and teachers back in time in order to better appreciate the magnificient sacrifices given by the American soldiers on the Normandy Beaches. Before beginning their journey, the students and teachers spent months prior reading about the World War II conflict and researching a soldier from their state to gain a view into the personal lives of the men who served in the Normandy campaign. Michael Shimek and Moni Hourt were the student and teacher Nebraska team. They researched the life of Dean A. Woods who was from Seward County, Nebraska. This website is dedicated to Mr. Albert Small, the Normandy Scholars, and ultimately those brave men who served in the Normandy campaign to protect our freedom.
